Short Bio
An Associate Professor of Nursing and the founder and Director of the Master’s Program in Women’s Health, and a former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Professions at Birzeit University, in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). She holds a PhD in Women's Health from the University of Oslo/Norway and a Master's in Nursing with a specialization in Midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Dr. Hassan teaches and mentors Bachelor, Master, and PhD students and coordinates the MIDRED project (2020-2026) on maternal and newborn care in the oPt, in collaboration with OsloMet University in Norway and Ghana. With over 30 years of experience, she is a renowned consultant and researcher in women's health, having led numerous qualitative, quantitative and clinical national and multi-center studies and published over 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals in the area of women’s sexual and reproductive health.
She co-authored the first hospital-based obstetric guidelines 20 years ago and remains active in their updates. Beyond academia, Dr. Hassan is also a co-founding board member of the Dunia Cancer Association and The East Mediterranean Federation of Sexual Health (EMFeSH), and she serves on the board of the Social Justice Observatory at Birzeit University. She participates in national committees, regional networks, and reviews for scientific journals.
