Short Bio
I am a lecturer in Veterinary Public Health for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) at Liverpool. My teaching includes food safety, meat inspection and animal welfare.
I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University in Lisbon. I worked for a couple of years as a small animal clinician but also as a Sanitary Inspector for the portuguese government. The second role led to the growth of my interest in food science and public health. I then moved to the UK where I took the position of Official Veterinarian representing the MHS (now FSA) for several years before joining the University of Liverpool. My current main research interests are in the relationship between animal health and welfare, food microbiology, surveillance of disease and the use of digital technology in teaching.
My professional journey has not been straight forward but has contributed to my multifaceted expertise. I believe that if you had asked me upon leaving my first degree what I would do, I would never have imagined. Nonetheless, that is what has been the most amazing part of my life and what has made me stronger as a person and as a professional.
