Short Bio
Dr. Matilde Jiménez-Coello is a Professor and Researcher at the Autonomous University of Yucatán's Biomedical Unit, specializing in microbiology. She earned a degree in Veterinary Medicine, a master's in Tropical Animal Health (epidemiology), and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM-X). Since 2004, she has focused on the diagnosis and epidemiology of zoonotic infectious diseases affecting both humans and animals, with an emphasis on the One Health approach. She is a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII) and has achieved the distinction of SNII Level II since 2012. Dr. Jiménez Coello has published over 65 peer-reviewed articles and holds an international patent. She is also recognized for her contributions to women in science, receiving prestigious awards from the Mexican Academy of Sciences, L'Oreal, and the French Academy of Sciences. Her current research interests include antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic pathogens and suicide prevention.
