Short Bio
An accomplished Conservation Biologist currently serving as a researcher and Senior lecture at the department of land resource management and agricultural technology (LARMAT) University of Nairobi. Her work focusses on restoring and protecting ecosystems and natural habitats in order to conserve biodiversity for improved environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods. Her wealth of professional experience has attracted research, development grants and consultancies from leading international institutions such as USAID, WFP and EU among others and invitations as an international speaker. This is in addition to engaging immensely in multi-stakeholder processes to spur a Systems Thinking approach in setting strategies for sustainable biodiversity use and conservation with experience at National level such as steering the Global Environment Facility – Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) for a period of seven years. Current areas of research interest include Bee farming, biodiversity conservation, participatory approaches (Citizen Science, Participatory Geographic Information systems (PGIS), Analysis of Innovation ecosystems, Human-wildlife conflict Management and wildlife biology. Training local community on integrated natural resource management. Currently implementing a short course on Bee farming for sustainable development in Africa and previously worked at the National Museums of Kenya, department of Mammalogy from 2005-2013, undertaking Conservation and taxonomic research on Mammals and ecosystems. She has authored and co-authored over 25 publications published in peer reviewed journals, book, and book chapters and conference proceedings and supervised eleven postgraduates to completion.
