Short Bio

Cheryl is a veterinarian with a PhD in endocrine physiology and a passion for conveying the urgency of implementing One Health thinking, acting and decision making at all levels of academia, research, clinical practice, government and policy. She has enjoyed professional experiences in Industry, Academic Research and Teaching, Private Veterinary Practice and as a One Health practitioner. Since 2013 Cheryl has served as Executive Director of the One Health Commission (OHC), a non-profit organization headquartered in central North Carolina, USA, but working globally. Through its volunteer working groups the OHC provides opportunities for individuals and organizations to work together across diverse disciplines to educate about One Health and One Health issues. In 2016 it spearheaded creation of an annual global One Health Day now in its 9th year, officially celebrated around the world on November 3. With input from One Health champions around the world, the OHC shares a monthly One Health Happenings newsletter with its international listserv of >20,600. Its volunteer working groups include a One Health Social Sciences Initiative with a Food Safety-Food Security sub-group, a One Health Education Initiative, A Bat Rabies Education Team and a Bossart Scholarship Team. It provides numerous resources for the international community of One Health stakeholders including a Who’s Who in One Health organizations, a compilation of One Health Educational Resources and Opportunities, and a One Health Speaker Bank among other services. It also leads a global One Health Awareness Month social media campaign each January highlighting the many arenas begging to be addressed using a One Health approach.
