Short Bio
Beverly Egyir (PhD) is a Senior Research Fellow at the Bacteriology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, within the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana. Her primary research focuses on employing both phenotypic and molecular tools to investigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in various bacterial species originating from humans, livestock, aquaculture, and the environment. She has a particular interest in combating superbugs like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria, aiming to address AMR through research, surveillance, and capacity-building efforts across the African continent. Dr. Egyir is a member of The Fleming-funded SeqAfrica consortium, led by the Technical University of Denmark, which is dedicated to developing and supporting whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics capacity for AMR surveillance throughout Africa. She also serves as a mentor within the African Society for Laboratory Medicine-led consortium executing the Fleming Fellowship scheme. In addition to her roles within various consortia and initiatives, Dr. Egyir is a member of the Wellcome Trust SEDRIC Genomics for AMR surveillance and Africa CDC Genomic AMR Working Groups. She is also actively involved in the international Quadripartite AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform. Dr. Egyir is engaged in the Antimicrobial Resistance Multi-Partner Trust Fund project in Ghana, which aims to counter antimicrobial resistance with a ‘One Health’ approach. Additionally, she contributes her expertise as a member of the National Antimicrobial Resistance Group in Ghana.
