Short Bio
I am a veterinarian and epidemiologist by training. I am currently an Associate Professor and group leader in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, Austria. Additionally, I serve as a Faculty Member at the Complexity Science Hub, where I lead the research topic Health Across Species. I also co-coordinate the Public Health Group at Disaster Competence Network Austria.
I obtained a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and holds a Master's degree in Parasitology. Prior to my Ph.D., I worked as a field veterinary epidemiologist in the Indian Ocean region. After completing my Ph.D, I undertook a postdoctoral position at Umeå University, Sweden, where I researched the eco-epidemiology of tularemia in humans. I then joined the Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology at Vetmeduni Vienna, focusing on urban rat ecology and rat-borne diseases.
My research bridges field epidemiology and data science, with a particular emphasis on zoonotic diseases, their hosts, and transmission dynamics, prioritizing applied research, qualitative, and quantitative One Health approaches. My aim is to inform One Health strategies for disease prevention, surveillance, and control.
