Short Bio

Dr. Berrian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (College of Veterinary Medicine) and the Division of Epidemiology (College of Public Health) at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. She is a veterinary epidemiologist with a focus on infectious diseases at the human-livestock-wildlife interface. She is particularly interested in applying One Health approaches to better understand infectious disease transmission dynamics and social determinants of health. Her current research focuses on socio-demographic drivers of zoonotic infections in rural, livestock-owning communities. She also works to strengthen global training capacity in veterinary medicine and One Health through the development of applied digital learning content, including the Day 1 Platform for Veterinary Education funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

At Ohio State, Dr. Berrian leads courses in zoonotic diseases, biosecurity, and environmental health at the professional and graduate student levels. She incorporates student-centered learning experiences such as case studies and problem-based learning to drive engagement, retention, and competency. She also serves as the Associate Director of the Veterinary Public Health Program, a specialization within the MPH degree program that provides students with the public health credentials to serve as leaders in zoonosis prevention and food safety.

She serves the University’s global engagement mission through her positions as Director of Outreach and Engagement with the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) and the faculty steering committee for the College of Veterinary Medicine Global Engagement Program.
