Short Bio
As a UNV One Health Technical Officer at the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region office in Cairo, I support 22 member states in integrating human, animal, and environmental health. Some of my work involves developing One Health action plans, offering guidance on pandemic fund proposals,
contributing to the WHO EMRO One Health Taskforce meetings, and establishing Egypt’s One Health Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP). I am currently focused on two projects. The first entails conducting a scoping literature review to support the establishment of a One Health approach in Libya. For the second project, I am collaborating with the Points of Entry (PoE) unit within the WHO EMR on a literature review of public health surveillance at ground crossings, ships, and aircraft to develop guidelines for PoE in the region. Additionally, I am a participant in the Expert Advisory Group supporting the Food and Agriculture Organization in developing the Strategic Framework for the Early Warning System for animal health threats. Before joining WHO, I served as a conservation research intern at the Nature Conservation Center at the American University of Beirut. My research focused on understanding attitudes towards bird
watching and bird hunting activities in Lebanon and across the Middle East and North Africa. The project aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of protecting migratory and resident birds. We sought to influence hunting behaviors by promoting birdwatching through education, citizen
science, and the development of bird-watching-based enterprises.
With a strong commitment to advancing the One Health approach, I am dedicated to continuing my work at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. My goal is to contribute to sustainable solutions that address the complex challenges posed by zoonotic diseases and other global
health threats.
